Annuals

Purple Petunia flowerAn annual is a plant that completes its entire life cycle in a single growing season.  In other words, in one season, the plant germinates from a seed, flowers, fruits and dies.  It survives the “off season” as seeds only.

Many desert plants are annuals as are many Western Australian wildflowers.  They germintate in winter, flower and fruit in spring and die before the hot dry summer begins.  The seeds remain dormant until the winter rain begins.

Some examples of annuals are Petunia, Pansy, Paper Daisy, Impatiens and Sunflowers
